How do I know which revision BH6 I have?

  • As stated on Abit's web site, you may find the version on the bottom (when mounted) side of the last ISA slot, in the form 'BH6-0K V1.xx':
  • You can also find out which version you have by looking at the last two letters on the bottom line of characters when you first boot up (when the Energy Star logo is displayed), and then find which list that letter combination is on Abit's bios download page for the BH6.
  • An easier way to know your version is to see if you have colour coded serial, LPT and PS2 ports. If they are colour coded, it is a BH6 1.1. If they're plain black, it's a BH6 1.0. Thanks to Joost Bazelmans (Abit FAE Europe) for the tip.

Can I use a Coppermine processor in my BH6?

  • Yes, you can. Simple answer :) Abit say that only boards with 55N03 MOS-FET chips support Coppermines (only on the 1.1 and some 1.02 boards, whereas some 1.0x have 45N03), but there is a strong argument against it here.
  • In the latest bios releases for 1.1, up to 850 is supported. But, not official for the 1.0s, even though they appear to work fine for everyone.
  • People have asked which one's better, Slot 1 or FC-PGA Coppermines. There really isn't much difference between either except for the packaging. The only thing which may complicate the issue is the quality of the slotket you use.

How do I get voltage higher than x.x?

  • You can reflash your bios using the /cc parameter to get extra voltages. For example, the celeron 2: set the voltage in the bios to the max you can get, ie 1.7v. Follow the bios flashing instructions in Bios Info, but type 'awdflash /cc bh6_xx.bin' to use the /cc parameter. This should set the default voltage for your processor to 1.7, allowing you to go up to 1.9. I personally have not tried this, so it may not work. It's possible you could set the jumpers on the slotket to 1.7, and the bios would then take that as the default voltage, and allow you to go to 1.9, without reflashing the bios (except this does not work for me, with an Abit SlotKET!!! in my 1.1).

How do I shut down in Win2k with my BH6 1.0x?

  • This has been fixed in the latest bios, QN. You can download it from the Bios Info page. You need to enable ACPI in the bios. The bad news is, you'll probably have to reinstall Windows :( although there may be a way to get it to 'detect' it without reinstalling it.

What size hard drive can I put in the BH6?

  • With the NV bios (1 revision back) for the 1.0x, and the NX bios (3 revisions back) for the 1.1, hard drives larger than 40 gig are supported. It appears this will hold for up to 128 Gb hard drives. :)

Why do my bios settings change after rebooting, and i get a 'CPU Unworkable or has been changed' error?

  • Always remember to disable the Speed Error Hold setting in CPU Soft Menu II!

Does my BH6 support a 1/4 PCI divider?

  • The 1.1 does. However, the clock generator in the 1.0x does NOT support a 1/4 pci divider, that's why it is not available in bios.

Can I use a Geforce card in my BH6?

  • I'm running an Asus v6800 Pure (DDR) fine in my system, and others are running various Geforce cards too. Although, some people do seem to have problems with their boards not supplying enough voltage to the video card.

Does the BH6 support Coppermine processors?

  • Abit do not support Coppermine P3s in BH6s. However, people seem to be using these fine. The BH6 1.1 can read the voltage correctly, and supported up to 700s with the PM bios. The NV bios for the BH6 1.0x has preset 650 and 700 speeds, so make what you will of it.

What's the difference between 1.0x and 1.1?

  • The main difference I have found is many more options for FSB, a supported 1/4 PCI divider, and colour coded peripheral connectors.

My BH6 won't boot, I fiddled with it a little too much. Help!

  • Clear the CMOS using the jumper located at the top right corner of the first ISA slot. To do this, unplug the power from your computer. Move the jumper so that it covers the middle and right pins. Plug your power back in, and leave it for 5 to 10 seconds. Unplug the power again, move the jumper back to its original position, plug the power back in and see if it boots.
  • Apparently you can clear the bios by holding down Insert and turning the computer on. This loads the 'Fail-Safe' default settings. Thanks to Sarkee for the heads-up!
  • See Bios Info for how to make an auto-recovery disk (not for the faint hearted!).

Can I use a 256 Mb RAM stick in my BH6?

  • Almost all 256 Mb sticks will work in the BH6, with the exception of the latest VCM modules. Try to use the newer 16Mb per chip, 16 chips per module sticks.

How do I use an LS-120 drive as a replacement for my floppy drive?

  • Attach the LS-120 to the second IDE cable as master. Then in standard bios, set the secondary master to 'AUTO' and disable the floppy drive and controller. Change the boot sequence to LS-120,C,... and there you have it. If it doesn't work, tell me!

How do I enable ACPI in Windows 2000?

  • Download and flash to the latest bios, enable ACPI in bios, and then run setup off the win2k CD to reinstall with ACPI support.
